The Day by Dawn Shirley

The lone fisherman sits quietly

Along the bank of the trickling stream... baited hook,

Long casts into the shadows

Waiting so patiently

Wishing...Wanting

Imagining the beast...The fight

The battle between them.

He mimics this movement

Repetitiously for hours.

Sitting on the bank

Thinking silently to himself

About the meaning of this day

The fight...The battle.

Yet as he quietly watches

The trickling stream as it daintily flows away

Seeing nothing, but the shadows being cast by himself

and the trees above, he can’t help but smile.

The battle is over. The day is done. Tomorrow will see another sunrise
