The Gulf Flounder...Facts & More

Its body color is brown, with numerous spots and blotches.

It has 3 prominent black spots whichform a triangle; one spot on lateral line, one above, one below.

It also has numerous white spots scattered over body and fins.
|

The gulf flounder can be found inshore on sandy or mud bottoms.
|
It hatches into a usual fish form, but the right eye eventually migrates over
to the left side.
|
This fish is highly prized by commercial fishermen.
|
|
The Gulf Flounder has strong canine-like teeth.
|
The common size for this particular fish is up to 2 lbs. and 15 inches long.
|
The Gulf Flounder feeds on crustaceans and small fishes.

Fishing tip:
Although flounder will strike artificial baits such as
jigs and gold spoons,
live bait such as small, live shrimp, mud minnows
and finger mullet is far more effective.

Flounder recipe
Gut and thoroughly scale the fish, both sides.
With a razor-sharp fillet knife, on the top side only,
score the fish horizontally and vertically in a tic-tac pattern.
Over low heat on your grill, baste fish liberally
with a baste of real butter, real lemon juice
and real garlic, until white and flaky.
