It was a beautiful, sunny summer day in June and my husband, Toby and I along with our two sons, Dustin and Logan, were spending the day visiting with family. Toby, my brother David, and cousin Samuel decided to take their sons and nephews to a neighbor’s pond and let them try to catch a couple fish. The owner of the pond had said he did not think that there were any fish left in the pond but that did not stop them. The men gathered up the fishing gear and loaded everyone up into the truck determined to catch some fish.
The fishing trip lasted only about an hour before the guys returned. Five boys, from ages one and half years old to seven-years-old, all with smiles on their little faces excitedly waited to tell their story. They were proud of their catch and each eager to tell his "Mommy" about the fish he had caught.
The boys kept the smiles on their faces for pictures to be taken. Then once the pictures had been taken they stood closely by with curious looks on their faces as the fish were cleaned. They knew that the fish they chose to keep would be fixed for them to eat sometime soon. In addition, they knew that someday they would be cleaning the fish by themselves and they did not want to miss anything.
That fishing trip was a few months ago and our boys still talk about it. That was the first fishing trip that all of those boys had got to go on together but hopefully we will have them all together for another fishing trip soon. Our children are growing up so fast and that will add to the other memories they will always have of fishing and hunting trips with their family.
