Lipper Tools, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of Lipper Tools for the United States, Canada, Caribbean and Bahamas. Lipper Tools are currently in production and manufactured in Paraguay by renowned fisherman and conservationist, Jorge Xifra. Available in two models, the LIP26 and LIP60.
Both Lipper Tools are constructed of premium 308 stainless steel, ABS plastic and a non-slip rubber handle grip. Each tool comes with a large adjustable lanyard and feature an easy to use, “cock and lock open” landing jaws with a push button release, adjustable set screw, and IGFA certifiable scale. No other company has a tool with as many features as Lipper Tools.
I have included details regarding Lipper Tools, and in some cases, I have compared Lipper Tools to other band tools, based on my personal experiences. I would like to add that I personally own and used a Boga grip for several years and feel they have a great tool. I have also used the Rapala tool and personally believe that tool to be the best made and worst designed tool on the market.

HANDLE AND LANYARD
Both Lipper Tools have a handle with a large barrel allowing for a firm grip of the non-skid rubber grip. Each tool has a large adjustable lanyard, which should not be placed over your wrist. We recommend that the lanyard be placed around your thumb and roll over the back of your hand allowing for a secure grip of your Lipper Tool. In order to avoid injury do not place the lanyard around your wrist.
In my opinion the Boga handle barrel is too small and the Rapala handle barrel is too short.
Lipper Tools have an easy to use cock and lock open landing jaws with a push button release, which can be used left or right handed. When your fish is ready to be landed, simply cock open the landing jaws and place same in the uppermost part of the fish’s lower lip, with your forefinger push the release button.
With regard to the Boga-the landing jaws have to be physically held open. ** Due to their scissor jaw action, when the Boga landing jaws are opened, they loose approximately half of their jaw depth. Further, the Boga landing jaw opening is not as wide as Lipper Tools.
If you were to place the Boga landing jaws on the end of your finger, they will not secure and you could pull the jaws right off. I know of several people who have lost a fish due to the Boga jaws not securing or slipping off of a fish’s lower lip.
With regard to the Rapala tools, their landing jaws have to be physically held open. Rapala tools are bulky, heavy and their landing jaws are hard to hold open. Their landing jaws have an extremely narrow opening, making landing a fish very difficult. If you are able to get the Rapala landing jaws over a fishes lip, it is next to impossible to get their jaws to release with out damaging or tearing the fishes lip off.
Unlike any other brand tool, Lipper Tools feature a set screw. When landing a fish, loosen the set screw (open position) which will allow the landing jaws to extend outward and turn 360 degrees. If your fish is “green” it can spin and thrash and the landing jaws can turn freely with out twisting you hand/wrist. When your fish is has calmed, the set screw will naturally go back to its normal resting position, if not, a simple twist of your wrist to the right or left will accomplish same. Fish can be weighed when the set screw is in the open position.
After you have weighed your fish, tighten (closed) the set screw and the landing jaws will remain secured, allowing total control while removing hooks, taking photographs or reviving fish for release.
Every other brand tools landing jaws always free spin allowing minimal control of your landed fish. Often times after landing a fish with my Boga, the fish would spin around in circles and would wrap and tangle my leader/line around its body. On several occasions, when I got my photographs developed, I realized that my fish turned on the Boga and all I got was photographs of its belly or back side. Lipper Tools allow total control and enable you to present your fish as you wish.
Further, while reviving fish in a current or boat side, I would often see fish roll on their side or spin in the water with other brand tools. With a Lipper Tool you can control your fish and keep it up right while reviving.
Lipper Tools scales are calibrated in pounds and kilos and are certifiable by a qualified agency. We recommend the International Game Fish Association (IGFA).
It is my understanding that the Rapala scales are inconsistent and the Berkley tools do not have a certifiable scale.
Lipper tools require minimal maintenance. Both Lipper Tools are constructed of premium 308 stainless steel, ABS plastic and a non slip rubber grip handle. They are especially constructed to withstand a sandy, salt-water environment.
Simply rinse with fresh water and then dry. Spray your Lipper Tool with a good rust preventative lubricant, being certain to cover all parts. Avoid storing your Lipper Tools in a tight confinement or wet sheath.
Lipper Tools are guaranteed against all defects in material and workmanship for one year after purchase.
Lipper Tools currently has a special introductory offer while supplies last; both Lipper Tools come with a deluxe hand tooled leather sheath (a $25 savings). It should be noted, the Lipper Tool sheath also fits all of the Boga and Berkley tools (also sold separately).
It should also be noted that your Lipper Tools can also be used as a “de-hooker”. A lot of times I want to release a fish untouched. That can be accomplished if the fish is hooked in the outer mouth or lip area simply by holding on to the line above the fish and running the landing jaws (closed position) over the line and down to the hook. With a twist and shake of your wrist, your Lipper Tool can also be used as a “hook-out”. Further, your Lipper Tools landing jaws can also be used as a bottle opener.
