FISHERMAN'S QUOTES
Some quotes that you hear many fishermen say… including myself;
”Fishing is so relaxing, I can go fish all day, not catch a thing, and be very content with that.”
Or
“That’s why they call it fishing, not catching.“
or still yet…
“ The great thing about fishing is just the being outdoors and enjoying nature.”
You know what? HA! LIARS! We’re all liars! I haven’t been able to get out and fish this summer like I did last year. Last year I was a lean, mean, fishing machine. Four to five days out of the week, I could be found somewhere at the water’s edge tossing in a line. This year I haven’t had that luxury due to many family commitments. We didn’t camp for a month, and I do most of my fishing at camp on the weekends. That means I went a whole month without fishing, and even LONGER without catching.
Celeste and I took a vacation the first week of July. Two days of that vacation was spent in Pennsylvania in Tionesta and Tidioute along side the Allegheny River. Beautiful scenery there and I fell in love with the river, but…. I fished that river almost all day one day… up and down the banks. I caught nothing; didn’t even get a bite.

Then we came back to camp the next day and I fished some more. Still nothing. We went home and came back again for the weekend and I proceeded to fish once again. I tried for trout, bass, and carp. I was getting pretty frustrated and that’s when I discovered it’s all a big scam! I looked at David and said “Ya know… if I didn’t love to fish as passionately as I do, I’d give it up forever! Who ever said that fishing is all about the tranquillity and scenery? What a crock! Who’s relaxed? Not me! I think I have the jitters. See my eye twitching? I want to catch a fish! No, I NEED to catch a fish!”
It was horrible. Then we went home. Celeste’s birthday was approaching as well as her tonsillectomy. A week after her surgery, we were hosting a family reunion at our place, so fishing was starting to look like a past time.
The first weekend in August we went to camp. We always arrive there on Friday.
I fished for carp in the creek, but caught nothing that day. BUT, I did land two bass from the pond and felt renewed. And you know what? Even though the pond’s water level was super low and the weeds were choking it from every angle and made the pond look uninviting, to me, after catching those fish, it was a beautiful sight.
So now I have come to the realization that the beauty of fishing and the beauty of catching go hand in hand. I find it hard to believe that you can have one with out the other for very long. Before I caught any bass, that pond looked menacing and scary, but after I was reeling the first one in, my whole outlook changed. Gee, even the dried up, dead grass looked greener.
