It's not only the time of year to be getting your tackle boxes restocked and new line on your reel, but time to check those old fishing liscense and make sure they are still valid before venturing to your favorite fishing hole. And what about those new fishing regulations for the 2004 fishing season? Do you know what they are?
Recently, we place a very important link on our website, the State Links Page. On this page of our website, you will find listed your state's link to your Department of Wildlife, Game and Fish Commission, or Department of Natural Resources. Regardless of what it is called, each site offers a treasure trove of information right at your fingertips- information that you will need to know if you intend to fish this year. For example, do you know your daily catch limits and license and permit information? You'd better find out.
Many of these sites also offer lake maps, weather and lake conditions, as well as a daily fishing report. While visiting the Arkansas site, I found a vast assortment of knowledge which I was thrilled with, including Arkansas Game fish identification, trout fishing information, sportsfishing records, information on trout stockings, and even educational programs available in my area.
Another section I was thrilled to find was the assortment of books and magazines available through my state's Game and Fish Commission. There were also brochures, newsletters, lake guides, and information on the Arkansas Stream Team which I did not even know existed. Does your state have a Stream Team?
The Arkansas Wildlife Magazine is one which I would recommend to anyone regardless of which state you may live in. This magazine has a wealth of information on wildlife, fishing, hunting, and conservation issues. But what I enjoy the most is the beautiful color photos and magazine articles which are included in each issue.
I have a nice selection of these magazines and even possess one with an article written by my husband called "Wanda's Whitetail".
Take time to check out the States Links page on our website and don't just stop at your state's page. Browse around in the other state's links and see what's going on across the US. Alaska's Fish and Game page is awesome. I loved their wolf page!
Visit the Kansas site and find out about their Zebra Mussel invasion. And if you visit the Missouri site, you'll find out why Sheila is seeing Eagles in her home state!
Grab your child or your spouse and spend some time together learning more about the great outdoors. All of these sites are beautifully put together with some great wildlife photographs and tons of information. And while you're at it... you might even learn something! I did!
