Anticipation

by Frank Langston

Drifting across the skinny waterway,
Throwing lures all the long day,
Waiting for that first explosion,
Always feeling our steady motion.

We ride with the wind then back again,
going over the same area over and over again.
Relentless in our daily mission,
til at last the lovely school is in our vision.

Hypnotized by this sight;

afraid to spook them...be real quiet.
Following them from far behind,
As far as I can cast my line.

Cast that lure in front of their nose.

Now this feeling can't be beat,
C'mon one of you... turn,

Come get your treat.

Curiosity killed this FISH, FISH, FISH,
This day paid off, he'll be delish!!

Sunburned faces, raccoon eyes.
Nothing replaces all these highs.

From ear to ear, this giant grin...
Til the dawn breaks, it begins again!
