From Bass fishing and bird hunting with her father, to fly fishing in Wyoming on her honeymoon, this Southeast native has been an outdoor enthusiast since childhood. Many of April's early outdoor pursuits continue to provide hours of enjoyment with family and friends today. Dedicated to conservation and preservation, April holds memberships in Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers.
In what she jokingly refers to as "her former life", her career as a professional golfer provided an opportunity to meet some wonderful people and see incredible places. April played professionally for 4 years following her graduation from Pepperdine University, where she was captain of the Women's Golf Team and represented the United States in the first women's international golf competition in the People's Republic of China. Several years later, it was her passion for golf that led her to a connection with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and the new passion she now pursues as the Executive Director of the Hooked on a Cure Celebrity Fly Fishing Classic.
With degrees in Communications and Marketing from Pepperdine, April uses her special events production and public relations background to raise money for the hospital. She and husband, Will founded the event in 2002, and look to their own children for inspiration. Anna, 5, and William, 3, keep everyone busy, but April explains that she firmly believes being a mom in addition to the other experiences really keeps things in focus. When she's not fishing or organizing events for others to fish, April spends her time teaching Sunday school or singing in church, and also works as Campaign Coordinator for a Community Foundation in Northeast Mississippi.
April has written for the Orvis News, and Hooked on a Cure has been featured in both Trout and Flyfisher magazines. She is currently working on a book chronicling her personal journey through the evolution of Hooked on a Cure as an inspiration for others to make a difference in the world by following their passions and dreams. The Conrad family lives in Corinth, Mississippi.
