Growing up in rural NE hunting was just a way of life. My dad was an avid bowhunter and taxidermist, so I was no stranger to the outdoors. I did the Girls Scout thing, camped and fished on our family vacations. I was even a camp counselor each summer. I didn’t really realize how important the outdoors was to me until I was much older.
My first hunt was when I was 19 and I was hooked from then on. Even though I learned to shoot a bow when I was 3, I didn’t start to bowhunt until I was almost 30. Since then the outdoors has become my life. I met my husband in 1996, he hunted upland birds, but had never shot a bow or really even fished much. He tells everyone that I showed him the door to hunting and he kicked the damn thing in!
We traded off our motorcycles for 4 wheelers and purchased our own hunting ground. I became involved in the Women in the Outdoors program and have been hosting outdoors skills workshops for 8 years now. My husband and I are bowhunter education instructors and teach archery and hunting classes all over the state. Our kids are all successful hunters and I couldn’t image not sharing the outdoors with family. Hunting is not only something we do... it is who we are.
