Melissa Bishop
Featured Outdoor Lady
submitted by Leisa Griffin

She is a daughter, wife, mother and a huntress. Her name is Melissa Bishop. Melissa was left paralyzed from the waist down after a near fatal car wreck in November of the year 2000 at the age of twenty-three. Many people might not consider this young lady the average hunter but don’t under-estimate her. Although, Melissa has had to deal with many obstacles in life, she has not let being paralyzed rule her life.

Melissa started hunting for squirrels with her dad at the early age of seven. She got her first squirrel shortly thereafter and has harvested many other animals over the years. In 2004, Melissa harvested her greatest trophy so far and proudly hangs a mount of the ten point whitetail buck on her wall. Mrs. Bishop along with her husband, David, passes on her passion for hunting to their son, Isaac.

Many people look at someone with a disability and feel sorry for them thinking they can not do what others may be able to do. Dealing with life’s many obstacles, this incredible huntress does not let anything hold her back. She has proved time and time again that you can overcome many of the obstacles that stand in your way with just a little ambition. Melissa’s determination and faith have seen her through many painful times. She shows her strength in everything she does from chasing after a three-year-old to relaxing in the woods awaiting her next trophy. She lives by faith and knows that God has a purpose for everything and she is not willing to give up.
