Paula Elert
Growing up in Minnesota, along the banks of the Mississippi, my love for fishing began early. From the time I was four, my brother would often bring me down to the river to fish, an act that would ultimately pave the road to my future! In the years to follow, my fishing interests expanded from freshwater to saltwater fish. Today my true love is saltwater fly-fishing. I was introduced to “the salt” when my sister and brother-in-law moved to the Florida Keys and purchased a flats boat. After catching my first tarpon I became obsessed. My favorite tag line is, “Paula Elert - future famous saltwater fly fishergirl”.
After working in the outdoor industry for 18 years (14 years with a sporting goods retailer, and 7 years with U.S.S.A as a downhill ski coach), I now work as a hunting & fishing travel specialist for a company called Outdoor Expeditions. While my job has allowed me to hunt and fish across
North, Central and South America, most importantly it led me to my husband Todd -- my best friend and love of my life. We met while fishing (I knew right away he was special), and months later we reconnected and fell madly in love. Today we reside in Wisconsin along with his two wonderful children (my stepchildren, who I love as if they were my own) and our dog, Kolah.
Going forward, my aspiration is to share my experience and knowledge of the outdoors with others, inspiring them to discover the joy the sporting life can bring. Whether it’s the beauty of nature itself, or the quest for what lies below the surface, I know I can’t live without my days on the water. And, when I can share it with the ones I love…I’ve got it made!
