Saturday morning, my buddy Sheryl and I drove to Indian Lake. I had been reading the fishing reports for weeks and read where anglers were catching Saugeye.
When we first got there, I told Sheryl "Man its cold, let’s just sit here and watch them for a few minutes". There were three boats trolling back and forth all around Dream Bridge. We sat for a while and never saw a fish caught.
I told Sheryl “I'm not better than a lot of people but I'm going to walk over there and try it.” Wham! I caught this 18 inch Saugeye on the second cast.
Oh my God it made my day. Of course the boats came over on top of me because I couldn’t keep my mouth shut. Well that, and the fact that they couldn’t miss the splash. I was using a Rod Bender ¼ oz VIB”E”.
I highly recommend this product for Saugeye. I’ve used them before at Fort Lauramie and I can’t keep enough of them. It’s hard not to occasionally get snagged. Just plan on losing one and make sure you have a backup.
I have made great strides in using VIB”E”s without losing them. I’ve learned how to flip
the line to get a snag to come loose, now most rock snags are easy for me. Everything takes practice and I’m going to keep practicing.
The Chartreuse/Shad and Firetiger are two of my favorites. I like the Pinkhead 14 for fishing murky water. Check out this website for more information www.rodbenderstackle.com.
