I managed to fish for salmon 2 days the first week of October 2005. But the most awesome part about those two days was that the temperatures outside exceeded 80 degrees! 80 degrees and salmon fishing, it was awesome And there was no shortage of salmon either.
Well, today, it is rainy and about 57 degrees. I wish I was at the fishing holes today! I bet the salmon are out of control.
We go camping today, and we will bring the camper home to end another great camping season. There are no salmon to catch in the Southern tier portion of New York State. And even though my body will be there, my heart and mind will be upstate in the New York tributaries of Lake Ontario.
Next week my schedule will be filling up, but I also plan to get another days worth of salmon fishing squeezed in somewhere soon.
It's funny, I have been addicted to fishing for quite a few years now, but after hooking into and fighting those fish last week... it's like being bitten all over again with the fishing bug. I swear to you that ever since Tuesday, I have been on an adreneline high. You'd think I had drank a pot of coffee a day. My mouth runs constantly...... ok, no wise cracks.
Seriously though, I feel incredible and wish that I could fish like this every day. You can't beat the splendor of standing in a creek and having these giant fish swimming and jumping all around you. If you have never, ever done it, you cannot understand the magnificence of it... the power of it, the pure awe! The first time a salmon made it's way upstream through the riffles, just below where I was standing, my heart started racing. They just plow their bodies up the rocks and created such sprays of water; I felt like I was watching Marlin Perkins...remember him? Then once they got used to me in the creek with them, they would swim very close, and once,
I had once swim right between my legs. I can guarantee that one of the things that made my first time stream fishing for running salmon incredible, was the fact that the sun was shining and is was very warm outside. I took advantage of those two days, and from here on out this year, the days will be much colder when I fish, but I bet I won't notice it to badly, because I am hooked on that salmon adreneline rush! There's not much more exciting that the feeling and power of a 30 pound fish tail dancing on the end of your line.
