On Golden Shores
Wanda Garner 5/24/06
Many years I spent on the water
With my favorite pole in hand,
Fishing from a flat-bottom boat
Not too far from land.
Not always catching fish, of course,
But having the time of my life
Away from the hustle and bustle,
Away from all the strife.
But time has now taken its toll
On this old man, you see.
No longer can I go to the river.
I’m not as strong as I used to be.
But for me, do not be sad.
The day is coming once more,
When I’ll be catching some real big fish
Off Heaven’s Golden Shores.
I close my eyes and yearn for the day.
It’s coming soon I know.
When in a brand new flat-bottom boat
From the Golden shores I’ll row.
The water will be crystal clear
And full of fish, you see.
I’ll reel them in, two at a time.
Then release them back to sea.
And at my side, I hope will be
The Greatest Fisherman of all.
He’s fished beside me, more than once,
And probably with some of ya’ll.
I’m ready Lord to go fishing once more.
Ready to hit the water.
We’ll share some stories, no tall-tales,
And see whose fish is fatter.
We’ll have a grand ole time, I’m sure
In my new found fishing hole,
When I reach those Golden Shores
With my favorite fishing pole.
